MIDWAY, Ky. – Midway University is pleased to announce that
Krae Kelso has been named Head Coach of Sprint Football. Kelso has been with the Midway University Sprint Football Team since its inception in 2022.
He began his career at Midway as the Defensive Back's Coach before taking over as the Offensive Coordinator for the past two seasons, helping four players earn All Midwest Sprint Football League honors on the offensive side of the ball. He has been serving as the Interim Head Coach for the past few months.
"Coach Kelso has been an integral part of our team since the beginning," said
Jamy Bechler, Interim Athletics Director. "In addition to his coaching on the field and knowledge of the game, his efforts to retain and recruit student-athletes have been impressive. He signed 8 new players who joined us this semester and we are seeing strong recruiting for our fall class. He also is highly engaged with our current student-athletes and cares about their success inside and outside the classroom."
Coach Kelso is excited about the upcoming season and celebrating Midway's first senior class in 2025. "We started the program together, so it's a great feeling to be here to see them end their careers," Kelso said. "I'm excited to continue to help our program grow."
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Kelso played quarterback in Kansas City, Mo. where he won the Frank Fontana Award, which is given to the best high school football player in the Kansas City Metro area for classes 1-4.
