WILBERFORCE, Ohio - Midway let a double-digit halftime lead slip away, as two late free throws propelled Wilberforce (Ohio) to a come-from-behind 74-72 win over the Eagles in a non-conference women's basketball game Thursday.
It was Constance Chaplin who did the Eagles in with a pair of late baskets. Chaplin forced a 72-72 tie when she hit a jumper with 26 seconds left. Then, following a Midway miss, she drew a foul with eight seconds to play and hit the decisive free throws.
The Eagles, who led by as many as seven in the final period, had one last chance to win it, but a
Jermyra Christian 3-point try at the buzzer was no good.
Midway fell to 9-8 despite having four players in double figures. Leading the charge off the bench was
Kassidy Daugherty, who was credited for 19 points on 7-of-7 shooting, with five of those attempts being 3-pointers.
Atlantis White had 14 points,
A'Lyrica Hughes had 13 and Christian finished with 11 and six assists.
Trinity Johnson led the Eagles with 10 rebounds, though the glass proved to be a detriment, as Wilberforce finished with a 52-35 advantage.
Thursday was the final non-conference game of the season for Midway, which returns to action with a 3:30 p.m. road matchup at St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.) on Saturday.
