TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Midway men's basketball traveled to Southern Indiana to face off against River States Conference rival Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Saturday. Despite strong individual performances from
Decoreio Smith,
Amari Wales,
Miguel Shaw, and
Travontae Swift, the Eagles fell to the home team, 89-70.
The Eagles were down by just three at halftime, trailing 37-34, but struggled to find consistent offense in the second half. Midway shot just 38 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes, while Saint Mary-of-the-Woods found their rhythm and shot 56 percent in the second half.
Smith had an impressive game. Finishing with with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a 3-of-7 mark from 3-point range. Wales also contributed with 13 points, three assists, and two rebounds.
Swift and Shaw came off the bench looking to score as they put up 17 and 10 points respectively.
Midway will look to bounce back from this loss with a home game against Campbellsville (Ky.) on Monday.
