VERSAILLES, Ky. - Midway's women's swimming team celebrated senior day with a triangle split against Pikeville (Ky.) and Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles easily topped Pikeville 145-24 then went all the way down to the wire against Shawnee before ultimately falling two points short, 102-100.
Before the meet, Midway bid farewell to seniors
Isabel Flores,
Katie Heath,
Sammy Friel,
Madison Richey,
Riette Bloomfield,
Brynnlee Wagoner and
Liz Pare, with several of those seniors contributing to the day's success.
Friel and Heath opened the day with a relay win, teaming with
Kaelynn Martin and
Josie Briner for a winning time of 4:19.19 in the 400 medley.
Friel also joined Martin, Briner and
Amber Klose to close out the day with a win in 3:52.62 in the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, she won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.76, 3.32 seconds faster than runner-up Klose.
In the 400 individual medley, Flores placed second in 5:46.38.
Outside the senior class, Briner and Martin both won two individual races, with Briner securing a National Qualifying 'B' cut in the process.
Briner hit the 'B' in the 100 butterfly with a finish of 1:01.23. The time one needed to hit to qualify is 1:01.59.
She also won the 200 free in 2:05.16, with Martin taking first in both the 100 backstroke (1:03.65) and 100 free (58.92).
The Eagles will be back on the road for another triangle next Saturday, traveling Wilmore, Ky. to face Asbury and Anderson (Ind.) at 1 p.m.
