Glasscock delivers GW hit in sixth as baseball opens 2025 with win

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Eli Glasscock came through with a game-winning RBI single in the sixth inning and Midway opened the 2025 baseball season with a 3-2 win over Huntington in a seven-inning neutral site mathcup at Georgia Gwinnett Friday.

The Eagles were originally slated to play the Foresters in the morning and the host Grizzlies in the afternoon, but played just the one game due to rain being in the forecast most of the day.

Midway got on the board before Huntington even recorded an out in the first inning, as leadoff man Grant Hotchkiss was hit by a pitch, then came around to score on a Josh Halterman double. Halterman would then advance to third on a wild pitch and score on Peyton Henry groundout.

Eagle starter Jesse Komoroski kept the Foresters without a hit for four-and-a-third innings before a pair of singles produced a run in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 2-1. Komoroski finished the day with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings.

Things got more tense in the top of the sixth with Bryce Deckman delivered a one-out triple. Two batters later, with men on second and third, Deckman scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Rost.

Fortunatley, Eagle reliever Blake Kincaid was able to strand the go-ahead run at third base with a strikeout to set up the dramatics of the inning's bottom half.

Midway caught a break when a three-base error put leadoff man Henry on third. Next batter Glasscock then singled him home to centerfield, producing the first Eagle run since the first inning.

That was enough for Kincaid, who overcame a leadoff error of his own in the top of the seventh, striking out the next two batters then ending the game with a pop out to centerfield.

After losing season openers in each of their first seven years as a program, the Eagles have now won their last two, winning 11-4 on the same field against Rust (Miss.) a season ago.

The Eagles and Foresters will play again at 11 a.m. Saturday. Midway will also face NAIA No. 3-ranked Georgia Gwinnett at 2 p.m.
