FAIRMONT, W. Va. - Midway wrestling had a solid showing at the Fairmont State Invitational Saturday, with three wrestlers placing in their weight classes.
Nolan Jones (141) went 3-2 on the day to finish sixth. In his opening match he came out strong with a 17-1 technical fall against Brayden Barbao of Waynesburg.
He would drop the next match before topping his next two opponents with one major decision and one fall in just forty-three seconds. Jones ended the day in a barn-burner, ultimately falling to Jakob Brown of Apprentice 14-9.
Chris Begley (149) got fifth on the day pinning his first opponent, Hashim Wordlaw, who wrestled unattached. He lost his next match to the eventual runner-up of the tournament Shawn Young of West Liberty in a 9-3 decision.
Begley would pin his next two opponents before he won the fifth-place match by injury default.
