RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Midway men's soccer team returned to action on Saturday (Oct. 18) when they traveled to the 'Buckeye State' for a River States Conference matchup with Rio Grande (Ohio) at Evan E. Davis Field.
The Eagles put up a valiant effort against the RedStorm, who are currently in the 'receiving votes' portion of the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll, but ultimately came up short, suffering a 2-0 defeat.
Hugo Ferrira netted the first goal for the RedStorm (6-4-3, 4-1 RSC) in the 18th minute, while Tommy Munoz Salazar scored the second goal in the 33rd minute.
Despite taking the loss,
Landon Sorrell had a solid game in goal for the Eagles. The Monroe, Louisiana native faced eight shots and made six saves.
As a team the Eagles had six shots including three shots on goal.
Tomas Sarmiento,
Rhys Dickson, and
Brayden Gillman accounted for Midway's three shots on goal.
Midway, who drops to 3-9-2 overall and 1-4-1 in RSC play, is back in action on Wednesday when they step out of league play for a non-conference matchup with Asbury (Ky.), a former RSC foe who joined the NCAA Division II ranks. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET in Wilmore.
