WILMORE, Ky. - In a season that's been filled with late-game heartache, Midway was able to turn the tables and steal a thrilling 2-1, non-conference win over Asbury in men's soccer Wednesday night.
After surrendering a goal to Benjamin Rogowski in the 29th minute,
Connor Vincent pitched a shutout the rest of the night with nine saves, none more impressive than the two he had with just under 8 minutes to play.
Asbury got in position to take the lead when Eli Redpath out-raced the Eagle defense to get a one-on-one attempt against Vincent. And while the keeper batted away the initial shot, Asbury was primed for a putback, as Vincent had come all the way to the front of the goal area.
Rogowski first chased down the ball and attempted to juke Vincent, who fell to the ground but was able to slightly deflect the ball off of Rogowski's foot. This gave Vincent just enough time to get in position to deny a shot by Nathan Hagland.
Hagland attempted another long-range shot off the ricochet but it sailed over the net.

Seemingly given a jolt of life, the Eagle offense took immediate advantage.
Just 1:05 after the defensive heroics, the ball found its way to
Brayden Gillman in the corner, who floated a pass to
Ben Banton, who tapped the ball away from a defender a put in the game-winning goal.
The assist capped a great offensive night for Gillman, who scored Midway's first goal in the 54th minute.
Wednesday was a nice change of fortune for an Eagle team that has had two losses and one tie decided in the final minute this season.
Still trying to battle its way into the River States Conference Tournament, Midway (4-9-2, 1-4-1) hosts Indiana Columbus (5-7-1, 2-3) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
