Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Two late goals spell defeat for Eagles against Mighty Oaks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Midway men's soccer team returned to the pitch on Saturday when they battled Oakland City (Ind.) in a River States Conference matchup at the Goebel Soccer Complex in Evansville, Indiana.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the 87th minute but suffered a heartbreaking defeat after the Mighty Oaks scored two goals in the final 2:42 to claim the 2-1 victory.

Midway (2-7-1, 0-3 RSC) got on the board first when Lucas Perotte found the back of the net with an unassisted tally in the 18th minute.

The Mighty Oaks (4-7, 3-0 RSC) had plenty of chances to score late in the first half and early in the second half before netting the equalizer with 2:42 remaining. Dan Lewis Bamana made a strike from just outside the box that got by a diving Landon Sorrell to tie the game at one.

Less than two minutes later with a minute remaining, the Eagles committed a foul in the box giving the Mighty Oaks a penalty kick. Ross O'Brien stepped up and converted the penalty kick to give his team the eventual 2-1 victory.

Despite allowing the two late goals, Sorrell made eight saves in the loss.

Midway is set to return to action on Thursday (Oct. 9) when they take on Kentucky Christian at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Midway Turf Field.
