Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Moore, defense spark women's basketball rout of Alice Lloyd

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. - Alexys Moore had the best performance of an already excellent freshman season and a swarming Midway defense continued to make life miserable for its opponents in a 96-80 women's basketball road win over Alice Lloyd Saturday.

Having scored in double-digits in each of her first four college games, Moore comfortably reached a new career high with 25 Saturday, with 18 of her points coming in the first half.

Much of that offense was set up by Moore's own defensive effort, as she led all players with five steals, with the Eagles recording 20 as a team. Midway forced 35 turnovers in the game, including 17 in the first quarter.

The Midway defense has forced at least 22 turnovers in all five of its games this season, with Saturday marking the third time its opponent has given the ball up at least 30 times.

As has been the case all year, the Eagles had great offensive balance, with 14 players scoring.

In just 13 minutes, Jacie Chesser just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Trinity Johnson had 10 points and a team-high five assists.

Now 4-1 for the first time in over 20 years, the Eagles have a great shot to improve their record further Wednesday, when they host in-state foe Union, which is allowing 94.5 points per-game during an 0-4 start.

Wednesday's game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
