DEARBORN, Mich. - Eight days after
a heartbreaking loss to a nationally ranked opponent, the Midway women's basketball team got back to its winning ways with an 88-65 blowout road win against the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday.
The Eagles followed a familiar script for success, jumping out to a 26-9 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks largely to 10 forced turnovers, which led to 14 points.
Midway entered the night sixth in the country with 28.6 turnovers forced per-game and took the ball away 26 more times against the Wolverines.
For the game, 13 Eagles scored, the seventh time this season the team had double-digit players score.Â
The balanced effort was again led by freshman
Alexys Moore, who scored 21 points while also dishing out a career-best five assists. Moore finished 8-of-11 from the field while also hitting a game-high four 3-pointers.
Right behind her was
Jacie Chesser, who finished with 16 points.
Jermyra Christian also scored in double figures with 10 points with
Morgan Cross grabbing a team-high five rebounds off the bench.
Things get tougher on Thursday, when Midway stays on the road for an instant turnaround against the University of Northwestern Ohio. The Racers come in with a record of 8-2.
The game in Lima, Ohio tips off at 5:30 p.m.
