CORBIN, Ky. - Three Midway wrestlers finished sixth in their weight class as the Eagle men took part in the Battle in the Bluegrass, hosted by the University of the Cumberlands on Friday.
The Eagles tied for 12th in the 16-team field with a final score of 40.5.
Sixth-place finishers on Friday were
Lucas Hall at 133 pounds,
Michael Colligan at 165 and
Sebastian Hutchinson at 184, with all three winning three matches.
Hall overcame an opening round loss with three straight wins. He won via tech fall over Christian Nesby of Pikeville (17-2) and Corey Moten of Brewton-Parker (22-7), while also gutting out a 10-9 decision over Matthew Wheeler of Defiance on his way to a 3-3 finish.
Colligan, who went 3-2, opened his day with three-straight wins. He snagged a 13-1 major decision over Cleary's Justin Major and a pair of pinfall against Zerrick Thomas of Siena Heights and Graiden Troth of Defiance.
Hutchinson also went 3-3 with all of his wins being major decisions. He beat Caleb Cohee of Siena Heights 16-6, Colin O'Graby of St. Ambrose 17-3 and Nicolas Makwala of St. Ambrose 16-6.
Chris Begley and
Anthony Popi each earned wins as well, both by fall. Begley pinned Darrion Evans of Pikeville at 157 with Popi pinning Braeden Buxton of Rio Grande.
The Eagles will be off until Jan. 9 when they travel to face Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo.
