WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - No. 25 Georgia Gwinnett shot better than 50 percent from the field and led for more than 57 minutes to drop Midway 92-66 in a neutral-site men's basketball game at the University of the Cumberlands Classic on Friday night.
The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead on two free throws by
Oghenemaro Egodotaye and a jumper by
Decoreio Smith, but the Grizzlies responded with a 17-3 run and would never again surrender the lead.
Midway struggled to shoot in all three phases, making just 38 percent from of its field goal tries, 25 percent of its 3-pointers and 60 percent of its free throws.
No Eagle topped 10 points, with Eogdotaye,
Tim Fuller and
Breland Morrison all reaching that total. Smith added eight points and six rebounds while
Sam Parrish had a team-high four assists.
The loss drops Midway to 3-6 on the season. A brutal week concludes with another game against a ranked opponent, as the Eagles close the Cumberlands Classic against the host Patriots, the NAIA's ninth-ranked team, at noon tomorrow.
