Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball suffers fourth-straight loss at IU East

RICHMOND, Ind. - A career-high scoring output by Will VanHook wasn't enough, as Midway let another double-digit lead slip away in an 87-76 loss to Indiana East in River States Conference men's basketball action Wednesday.

In a game that was delayed 24 hours by weather, the Eagles jumped out to four separate 13-point leads in the first half, the last of which coming on an Amari Wales jump shot that made it 35-22 with 2:59 to play in the half.

But the Red Wolves responded by scoring the next 10 points and closed the half on a 12-2 run to get within 37-35 at the break.

It then took IU East less than two minutes into the second half to take its first lead on an Antuane Allen dunk that made it 40-39.

Though the Eagles wouldn't lead again, they did tie the game twice and were down just 75-74 following a Wales layup with 2:18 remaining.

But Allen but an exclamation point on a 30-point night, recording a layup and 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions as the Red Wolves again closed the half on a 12-2 run to hand Midway a fourth-straight loss.

Wednesday marked the sixth time this season the Eagles lost a game in which they held a double-digit lead.

This spoiled a great night for VanHook, who scored a career-high 20 points while grabbing nine rebounds. He finished 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line.

Decoreio Smith added 14 points with Wales and Creshaun Brown both scoring 14 for an Eagle team that is 8-14 with a 5-8 mark in conference play.

With its chances at securing a spot in the River States Conference Tournament slipping, the Eagles will finish the season with three straight home games, starting with a 1 p.m. tip against in-state foe Alice Lloyd Saturday.
