BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Logan Tincher cracked the top-10 in singles and doubles, highlighting the opening day of the Mid-South Conference Championships for Midway men's bowling on Thursday.
The sixth-seeded Eagles nearly pulled an upset in the opening round of team competition, building up a 3-0 lead over No. 3 Cumberland before the Phoenix won the next four to take the best-of-seven match.
In individual play, Tincher had a three-game score of 668. He knocked down 200 or more pins in each game and climbed several spots on the leaderboard with his final-round score of 241.
Tincher and
Scott Atkins finished ninth in doubles competition, with Atkins' 17th-place score of 622 giving the duo a tally of 1,233.
Against Cumberland, Midway won the first two rounds decisively, (162-136 in game one, 185-145 in game two), then squeaked out a 177-173 win in the third.
But the Phoenix responded with consecutive wins by 40-plus, then pulled even with a 175-165 win in game six. And though the Eagles had their best round in game seven, Cumberland answered in kind, advancing to the winner's bracket with a 236-201 victory.
Midway will attempt to stay alive in the double-elimination field tomorrow morning, opening against No. 7 seed Lindsey Wilson, which lost 4-1 to No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan Thursday.
