MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway men's volleyball put up a strong fight on Tuesday evening at Marshall Gymnasium but ultimately fell to the visiting (RV) Cumberland (Tenn.) Phoenix in four sets, 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 25-9.
Despite flashes of momentum and a resilient third-set victory, the Eagles couldn't sustain the pressure against a disciplined Cumberland squad.
Midway showed signs of promise throughout the match, especially in the second and third sets, where they nearly turned the tide in its favor.
After narrowly dropping the second set, the Eagles responded with an energized performance in the third, taking control with a 25-18 win.
Key players in the match for Midway were
Jai'Den Chinnis, who had 11 kills,
Lincoln Anderson, who had three aces and seven digs and
Jordan Daily, who paced the offense with 23 assists and two aces.
Braden Cacek had a well-rounded match with four kills, two aces, and seven digs.
However, Cumberland quickly regrouped and dominated the fourth set, securing the match with a 25-9 victory.
The Eagles will look to sharpen their skills quickly before heading to Campbellsville to face another River States Conference opponent that is receiving votes nationally.
They will play that match on Friday at 7 p.m.
