WALESKA, Ga. - Midway put up two first-inning runs, only for NAIA sixth-ranked Reinhardt to dominate the rest of the way, handing the Eagles a 12-2, run-rule loss in seven innings Saturday.
A day after being kept off the scoreboard
in a 1-0 loss, Midway bats came out scorching, putting runners on second and third with no outs following a
Grant Hotchkiss single and
Eli Glasscock double. Hotchkiss would score on a
Brady Vaughn RBI groundout, then Glasscock made it 2-0 by coming home on a pass ball.
But the hometown Eagles pulled away from the visitors starting with a five-run second inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Robert Phelps.Â
Phelps and Cade Chamlee both had four RBIs while Barry Eiseman went 4-for-for at the plate. Midway, meanwhile, had just two hits the rest of the game, both of them by
Josh Halterman.
Now 1-4 on the season, the Eagles will conclude a three-game series at Reinhardt Sunday, with first pitch set for noon.
