COLUMBIA, Ky. - Midway baseball recorded a season-high 15 hits and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning to take a 7-5 win at Lindsey Wilson on Tuesday.
Midway set the tone early with a first inning run, before exploding for four in the third, the highlight coming on a three-run home run by
Ayden Sciandra.
Despite Lindsey Wilson's attempts to battle back, the Eagle defense held firm, most notably in the eighth. With the lead at 7-5, Joshua Plasencia was put in with the bases loaded and two outs, and recorded an inning-ending groundout before the Eagles put together a 1-2-3 ninth to clinch the win.
Sciandra, Barrett McGill, Shane Taylor, Britten Robinson, Cole Ginter and Mahrlon Torres all had two hits for the Eagles, who had their most hits in a game since recording 17 in a win over Alice Lloyd on March 3 of last year.
Sciandra, Grant Hotchkiss and Carlos Canales each scored two runs to help Midway improve to 11-13 overall, heading into a three-game River States Conference home series against Rio Grande (Ohio) this weekend, beginning with a 3 p.m. game on Friday.
