NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Midway University's softball team hit the road for a doubleheader against Indiana Southeast on Saturday, dropping both games despite a strong offensive showing in the second contest.
GAME ONE: IU SOUTHEAST 7, MIDWAY 4
In the first game of the day, Midway (6-15) struggled to find early momentum, eventually falling to Indiana Southeast by a score of 7-4. After three scoreless innings, the Eagles broke through in the fourth, plating three runs to narrow the deficit.
Ryann Berger led the offensive charge, scoring two runs and stealing two bases, while Sawyer Snodgrass contributed with two hits and an RBI. Midway tacked on another run in the sixth, but the Grenadiers' early lead proved insurmountable.
On the mound, Athena Grimley started the game, going 4.2 innings while allowing three earned runs. The Eagles' defense committed two errors.
GAME TWO: IU SOUTHEAST 17, MIDWAY 10
The second game saw Midway put together an impressive offensive performance, collecting 16 hits and scoring 10 runs.
After scoring one run in the first inning, Midway's bats came alive, scoring nine combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings. But that unfortunately wasn't enough to keep up with a Grenadier team that scored 14 runs on 15 hits in its last three at-bats.
Berger continued her stellar performance, going 4-for-4, scoring two runs and driving in another.. She also stole three of the eight bases Midway swiped in the game.
Sierra Bittner drove in three runs while she, Madison Hill, Snodgrass, Autumn Wampler and Tenley Gilbert all had two hits.
Midway is back home on Wednesday against another River States Conference opponent in West Virginia Tech. The contest will be a double header starting at 1 p.m.
