MIDWAY, Ky. - River States Conference play couldn't have started much better for the Midway women's tennis team, as the Eagles dropped just 10 games between singles and doubles in a 7-0 home win over Shawnee State Wednesday.
Agustina Olivero didn't lose a game all day, pairing with
Mara Guillen for a 6-0 win over Antonia Ilea and McKenzie Harman at No. 1 doubles play, then defeating Brooklyn Foose 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.Â
She was one of three Eagles to earn a 6-0, 6-0 singles win.
Tanit Cevada defeated Harman at No.3Â while
Sofia Rueda beat Miranda Johnson at No. 5.
Playing at the No. 2, 4 and 6 positions respectively, Guillen,
Nana Hishida and
Angelia Herrera all dropped just two games. Guillen beat Ilea 6-2, 6-0, Hishida defeated Miranda Johnson 6-1, 6-1 and Herrera topped Makenna Pelphrey 6-0, 6-2.
Midway also got 6-2 wins at the second and third doubles positions.Cevada and Rueda beat Johnson and Foose with Hisida and Herrara beating Maggie Clark and Makenna Pelphrey.
Wednesday marked the first of three-consecutive match days for the Eagles, who are back home to face Kentucky Wesleyan at noon tomorrow.
