MIDWAY, Ky. - Despite a resilient effort in the later innings, the Midway was unable to overcome early defensive struggles as River States Conference foe Indiana Kokomo completed a three-game sweep with a 10-6 win Saturday.
Midway struggled with defensive miscues, committing six errors that proved costly. IUK capitalized on these opportunities, with eight of its 10 runs being unearned.
After falling behind 4-0 through three innings, the Eagles roared back in the bottom of the third thanks to a three-run homer from Eli Glasscock, cutting the deficit to one. It was the second three-run home run of the series for Glasscock, who also had a grand slam against Thomas More on Tuesday.
However, the Cougars continued to apply pressure, adding five more runs between the fourth and seventh innings, including a three-run homer from Jacob Medvescek in the sixth.
Midway scored in each of the final innings. Mahrlon Torres drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, Glasscock added an RBI single in the eighth, and Grant Hotchkiss plated another in the ninth.
Tommy Hennigner (2-5) took the loss despite not allowing an earned run..
Glasscock was the offensive standout, going 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, while Ayden Sciandra added two hits as the Eagles dropped to 14-17 overall and 7-8 in the River States Conference. This is the first time all season they've been sub-.500 in conference play.
The Eagles will have a gut check game on Tuesday as No. 9 Cumberlands (Ky.) comes to town for a 3 p.m. game.
