MARIETTA, Ga. - Midway men's volleyball battled but ultimately fell in straight sets to Truett McConnell (Ga.) 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 Tuesday night.
Midway (1-9) struggled offensively, finishing with a negative hitting percentage (-.036) on the night, committing 21 attack errors. Jordan Daily led the team with six kills, hitting .235 while also contributing eight assists and a service ace. Jai'Den Chinnis was active at the net, collecting a team-high five blocks along with five kills.
Defensively, Lincoln Anderson led the Eagles with nine digs, while Gabriel Plata chipped in with six.
The first set saw Midway keep pace early, tying the score at 2-2 after a service error by Truett McConnell. However, the Bears built a lead midway through the set, forcing a timeout at 17-12. Despite a late push, Midway couldn't close the gap.
In the second set, Midway played its best offensive stretch, recording seven kills with a .042 hitting percentage. The Eagles fought hard, keeping the set close at 23-18 before the Bears secured the final two points to close it out.
The third set mirrored the first, as Midway struggled with consistency. Despite a few highlight plays, including a pair of key kills from Chinnis and Daily, the Eagles couldn't overcome a strong finish by Truett McConnell.
Midway will look to regroup and get back in the win column in their next match up against Rio Grande (Ohio) as they jump back into River States Conference play.
