RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The Midway Eagles put up a strong fight but ultimately fell in straight sets to Rio Grande, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13 on Saturday evening.
The Eagles came out strong in the first set, taking an early 6-1 lead thanks to blocks from Jai'Den Chinnis and Jose Conde. However, Rio Grande responded with a balanced attack, capitalizing on Midway's service errors and attack miscues to edge out the set.
In the second set, Midway found some rhythm behind setter Jordan Daily, who tallied nine assists, while Luke Wallace delivered an efficient .500 hitting percentage with three kills. Jaden Alston led the team with five kills, but four aces helped the Red Storm put the set away.
The third set saw Rio Grande dominate offensively, hitting an impressive .591 while limiting Midway to a .074 hitting percentage.
The Eagles fall to 1-9 with an 0-5 mark in the River States Conference. They are back in action against Oakland City on March 11th.
