Midway softball loses RSC opener vs. Oakland City

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway struggled to find consistent offense in its River States Conference opening games Tuesday, falling 2-1 and 8-1 in a home doubleheader against Oakland City.

GAME ONE: OAKLAND CITY 2, MIDWAY 1

A two-run Katherine Hibbitt home run was all the offense the Mighty Oaks needed, as starting pitcher Madison Shipley allowed just one hit through five innings.

The Eagles put together a two-out rally in the sixth, as Ryann Berger singled, stole two bases and came home on a Sawyer Snodgrass single.

But Shipley got out of that jam, then recorded three straight outs in the seventh after Sierra Bittner led off with a single.

Eagle starter Athena Grimley surrendered just five hits in six innings of work.

GAME TWO: OAKLAND CITY 8, MIDWAY 1

The Mighty Oak offense was far more potent in game two, equaling their game-one hit total in a four-run first inning. OCU finished the game with 12 hits, seven of the extra-base variety.

Berger and Payton Baum each had two hits, with Berger driving in the Eagles' lone run on a single in the third inning.

Midway (2-10, 0-8) will be in Indiana for a pair of RSC series this weekend, starting with a doubleheader at St. Mary of the Woods on Friday. Game one will begin at 3 p.m.
