PARK CITY, Kan. - Midway wrestling saw its season come to an end Thursday, as none of its three NAIA National Championship qualifiers advanced out of the first day of competition.
Kyler Adams - 141 pounds
Adams lost his first match to the No. 11 seed Hagen Heistand from Concordia (Neb.) in a major decision (12-4).
He then faced off against Reinhardt's (Ga.) Devin Griffin. This match was a much closer one but a stall call with two seconds remaining in the match proved costly and gave Griffin the win 2-1.
This was the final match at Midway for Adams, the first four-time national qualifier in program history.
Abe Hafez - 165 pounds
Taking on the No. 3 seed Cam Robinson of Grand View proved to be too tall a task for Hafez, was was pinned just 1:58 in.
His second match was a thriller against Orion Thivierge of Montana State Northern. Hafez put Thivierge to his back late in the second period but time expired before he could get the fall. He lost the match in a 15-8 decision.
Aaron Garcia - Heavyweight
Garcia kept the match against No.16 Darrian Hoobery of Eastern Oregon close, but would give up a takedown late, pushing for the lead and lose a 7-3 decision. His second match against Braydon Erb of Indiana Tech was more of the same with it also ending in a 7-4 decision.
Though the tournament did not go as planned Midway looks to build its roster in the offseason and start getting ready for next season.
