CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - In a tough road matchup against a Campbellsville team receiving votes in the national poll, Midway baseball was unable to overcome a pair of massive innings early in the contest, falling 16-1 in seven innings.
Midway (16-21) showed grit at the plate, notching six hits on the day, including four doubles, but couldn't keep pace with a surging Campbellsville (26-13) offense that struck for seven runs in both the second and third innings.
The Eagles got their lone run in the top of the third, when Eli Glasscock ripped a two-out RBI double to center field, bringing home Grant Stone, who reached after being hit by a pitch. Glasscock finished the day 2-for-3.
Other contributors at the plate included Peyton Henry, Mahrlon Torres and Britten Robinson, who all had doubles.
On the mound, Midway used seven pitchers in the effort. Dalton Soergel started the game strong with a scoreless first, striking out two.
However, Campbellsville's offense ignited in the second and third innings, powered by home runs from Blake Bowers, Yuki Fujie and Hank Wright, as well as a three-run double by Ty Wischnack.
Midway returns to River States Conference play with a three-game series against Indiana Columbus this weekend.
