GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Midway softball began the final week of its season with a pair of losses, the Eagles falling 4-3 and 9-4 in a non-conference doubleheader at Georgetown Tuesday.
GAME ONE: GEORGETOWN 4, MIDWAY 3
The Eagles tied the score 3-3 in the top of the fifth when
Kennadi Thompson, who also drew an RBI walk in the third, singled home
Ryann Berger.
But that was answered by Georgetown's Haylee Stansbury, who drove home Alannna Pierece after Pierce led off the bottom of the sixth with a double. Midway put the tying run in scoring position with one out in the seventh, only for the Tigers to force consecutive groundouts to end the game.
Tenley Gilbert led all players with three hits while
Lana Maupin and
Payton Baum both added two in defeat.
GAME TWO: GEORGETOWN 9, MIDWAY 4
The Eagles were just six outs from victory, after a two-run sixth, where Gilbert scored on a pass ball and
Sawyer Snodgrass had an RBI single to put them ahead 3-2.
Though the Tigers got a run back, Midway needed just one out to escape the bottom of the sixth with a tie. Instead, the wheels fell off, as four hits and a walk produced six more Georgetown runs.
Snodgrass had two hits while Gilbert and
Madison Hill both drove in runs for the 12-32 Eagles.
Midway has two more River States Conference doubleheaders to end the year, starting with a home matchup against St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.) Wednesday. Game one begins at 3 p.m.
