WESTFIELD, Ind. - After rain forced a baseball doubleheader between Midway and Trinity Christian (Ill.) to be moved from Midway to Westville, Ind., further rain caused the second game of the series to be canceled Friday.
But before that, the Eagles were able to put together a four-run, two-out rally in the fifth inning, then escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to win the lone game of the matchup 5-2.
The go-ahead rally started with an
Eli Glasscock single after the first two batters were retired in the bottom of the fifth. That was followed by two more singles by
Josh Halterman and
Barrett McGill to load the bases.
Next batter
Peyton Henry then found the gap in left-center to bring home a pair or runs with a double to give Midway a 3-1 lead. Immediately after, the lead extended to 5-1 as pinch-runner Carlos Canalas scored on a wild pitch and
Ayden Sciandra drove Henry home with a single.
The Trolls nearly pulled off a similar rally in their final at-bat. After Josh Pilgrim led off the inning with a triple, the next two batters were retired.
But following a walk, Pilgrim was driven home via a Shane Jones single. Then, following another walk, the bases were loaded.
Fortunately for Midway, reliever
Jackson Lee was able to halt further damage, forcing Hector Mendoza to fly out to
Scott Kendrick in left to end the game.
Lee and starter
Blake Kincaid both allowed just one run.
Glasscock reached base three times and drove in Midway's first run with a third-inning double to tie the score after Trinity Christian had scored in the top of the second.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Eagles, who are now 15-18 on the season.Â
