BEREA, Ky. - Having already had a great debut, Midway freshman
Sloane Pollock made it even better by converting a miraculous shot with under six minutes to play, as Midway salvaged a 2-2 tie in its women's soccer season opener at Berea Tuesday night.
Though fellow freshman goalie
Lilly Riordan did a great job holding off a strong Mountaineer attack for much of the second half, Berea was able to break a 1-1 tie with a breakaway goal with 10:55 remaining.
But just a little over four minutes later, the Eagles avoided defeat when Pollock took a pass from
Anna Kneisley and from roughly 30 yards out, blasted a rocket shot that found the net just over the outstretched fingertips of Berea goalie Elana Horne.
That was one of two goals scored on the night by Pollock, the first of which also coming on a great play.
With Midway down 1-0 with just over 10 minutes left until halftime, a
Courtney Milner shot was blocked by a charging Horne, only for the ball to bounce backwards towards a wide open net, where it was chased down and converted by Pollock.
The Eagles open the 2025 season with three straight road games. The second will come at Defiance (Ohio) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
