DEFIANCE, Ohio - First-year players continued to thrive and Warren Lipka got his first win as Midway's women's soccer coach with a 2-0 road triumph at Defiance (Ohio) Saturday.
After scoring two goals
in a season-opening tie at Berea on Tuesday, freshman
Sloane Pollock had another great day Saturday, getting the Eagles on the board with an unassisted goal in the 18th minute.
Pollock was in the middle of the action again when the Eagles scored less than eight minutes later. An
Annabel Young pass to Pollock in the middle of the field was knocked in the net, though the score was recorded as a Yellow Jacket own goal.
Midway wouldn't score again, but the first-half output was more than enough, as fellow freshman
Lilly Riordan got her first career win with a shutout, stopping all five shots on goal that came her way.
Now 1-0-1 on the season, the Eagles will get a full two weeks off before traveling to Henderson, Tenn. to face Freed-Hardeman on Sept. 13.
