RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Midway women's volleyball had a rough afternoon on day one of the EJC Memorial Classic Friday, losing in 3-0 finals to both Ohio Christian and Northwestern Ohio.
MATCH ONE: OCU 3, MIDWAY 0 (25-17, 25-6, 25-15)
After out-hitting the Eagles .500 to negative .190 in the first set, the Blazers put together a whopping 20-0 run in the second after Midway had jumped out to a 3-1.
Midway used a 3-0 run to go up 7-5 in the third set before the Blazers scored the next five points and held the lead the rest of the way.
Alyssa Medeiros had a team-high four kills while
Blair Riney recorded nine digs in the loss.
MATCH TWO: NORTHWESTERN OHIO 3, MIDWAY 0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-17)
Big runs proved costly again in the second match. UNOH scored the final 10 points of the opening set, then scored seven in a row after the Eagles jumped out to an early 8-4 lead in set two.
Freshmen led Midway in every stat category.
Mayson Delong had 10 digs and two aces while tying
Ava Benner for the team lead with four kills. Elsewhere,
Makenna Depue had eight assists while
Aleeyah Ladd had three blocks.
Midway (0-3) will take on two River States Conference foes in non-conference matches Saturday to close the EJC Classic. The Eagles face Kentucky Christian at 11 a.m. and Shawnee State at 4 p.m.
