RICHMOND, Ind. - Defending River States Conference champion Indiana East held Midway at arm's length all afternoon, sweeping the Eagles 25-13, 25-11, 25-19 in a women's volleyball matchup Saturday.
The Eagles jumped ahead 1-0 in the opening set and 2-1 in the second but those would be their only leads of the afternoon. They did put together a strong rally midway through the second set, getting within 10-9 on an ace byÂ
Aubry Kamholz, only for the Red Wolves to score the next nine points.
The third set would be the most competitive, as Midway would tie things up at 13 on a
Mayson Delong kill and back-to-back aces by
Alyssa Medeiros.
But the lead would not switch hands, as the Red Wolves answered with four straight kills while scoring seven of the next eight points.
Medeiros and
Ava Benner led Midway with six and five kills respectively, many of which were set up by
Lindsey Whitehouse, who had 14 assists.
Jessica Florence added seven digs for the Eagles, who are now 1-10 on the year and 0-3 in the RSC.
The Eagle are back on the road next Friday for a conference matchup against Kentucky Christian.
