Eagle women dominate SMWC to win conference opener

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway women's soccer opened River States Conference play with a wire-to-wire dominant effort, which resulted in a 3-0 win over visiting Saint Mary of the Woods Thursday night.

The Eagles held the Pomeroys without a shot in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a 13th minute goal by Laykin Irvin. The goal was Irvin's first at Midway.

Saint Mary of the Woods, which has scored just two goals on the season, kept the Midway offense at bay for over 60 minutes before two second half goals put things out of reach.

In the 74th minute, Naida Meeks scored her first goal of the season off an assist by Anna Grace Meek. Less than seven minutes later, Kylie Hudgins put an exclamation point on the win, blasting a rocket shot into the left corner of the net from 35 yards away.

Now 3-1-1 overall, the Eagles will look to improve to 2-0 in RSC play on Saturday with a trip to West Virginia Tech. The game will kick off at 5:30 p.m.
