BECKLEY, W.Va. -- After starting River States Conference play with a shutout victory on Thursday, the Midway women's soccer team suffered their first league loss of the season on Saturday at WVU Tech.
WVU Tech sprinted to a 2-0 lead at intermission and didn't look back en route to a 4-1 victory over the Eagles
The Golden Bears (3-2-1, 1-1 RSC) struck first when Nora Martin-Mora Seg found the back of the net in the 22nd minute. The lead then doubled when Marcela Kalb found paydirt with just 1:01 left in the first half.
Julia Silva and Korinne Potter then scored back-to-back goals within three minutes of one another in the 75th and 78th minutes, respectively.
Haylee Applegate added a goal late, her first of the season, in the 87th minute, but it was too-little, too-late as WVU Tech came away with the 4-1 victory.
The Golden Bears thoroughly dominated possession with a 30-2 advantage in shots.
The Eagles (3-2-1, 1-1 RSC) are set to return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 1) when they step out of River States Conference play to host Georgetown (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at the Midway Turf Field.
