Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's volleyball drops three-set road match to KSU

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Midway had five set-point chances to start a match against Kentucky State but was unable to close any of them, as the Thoroughbreds eventually earned a 33-31, 25-20, 25-17 sweep in men's volleyball play Tuesday night.

The Eagles held off consecutive set points, first on a Lars Ketelaars kill to make it 25-25, then off a service error to make it 26-26.

The Eagles took a 27-26 lead on a Kentucky State attack error, kicking off a sequence where the teams traded 10 consecutive points.

Midway once again took a 31-30 lead off a service error. But after the Thoroughbreds answered with a Jackson Moffitt kill, Midway had attack errors on consecutive play to go down a set.

Set two looked like it may go extra time as well, as it featured 12 ties and six lead changes.

But a Braden Cacek service ace, which made it 18-18, proved to be the last tie, with KSU answering with four straight points.

Midway wouldn't lead again, as Kentucky State jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start set three and cruised from there.

Noah Fichter had a career-high 22 assists, setting up five players who had four kills or more. That group was led by JT Kimball, who had six.

The two teams will play again on Wednesday, this time at Marshall Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
