BECKLEY, W. Va. - The Midway women played four quarters of dominant basketball in a 73-43 blowout of West Virginia Tech Tuesday, setting up a major showdown with Shawnee State in the regular-season finale this coming Saturday.
After falling behind 4-2, the Eagles put together an 18-4 run, taking the lead for good at 7-4 on an
A'Lyrica Hughes 3-pointer.
It was another balanced effort for the Eagle offense with 13 players scoring at least two points.
Jermyra Chrsitian led the way, leading all players with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Jacie Chesser and
Alexys Moore were also in double figures, scoring 11 and 10 respectively.
Moore added a game-high three steals for an Eagle defense that was stingy the entire evening, particularly in the third quarter, where the Golden Bears scored just four points on 2-of-17 shooting.
Tuesday marked the eighth time this season the 21-6 Eagles won a game by at least 30 points.
Now 12-3 in Rivers States Conference play, Midway closes the regular season at home against Shawnee State (11-4), where the winner will earn the RSC East's No. 2 seed and a home game in the opening round of the conference tournament.
The Eagles need a win as loss would clinch the tie-breaker for the Bears,
who defeated Midway 71-67 in Shawnee on Jan. 3. Saturday's game tips off at 1 p.m.
