RICHMOND, Ind. - Midway was competitive for a set-and-a-half before Indiana East ran away for a 25-22, 25-17, 25-12 win over the Eagles in River States Conference men's volleyball match Tuesday.
The Eagles made a strong rally after falling behind 19-11 in the first set. They put together an 11-4 run to get within 23-22 on an attack error before back-to-back kills by Vinicius Lopes secured the win for the Red Wolves.
Midway then started fast in set two, going on a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. The Eagles would take what proved to be their last lead of the night at 11-10 on a
Lars Ketelaars kill, which IU East answered by scoring eight of the next nine points.
The third set was all Red Wolves, as the Eagles had a negative-.200 hitting percentage and saw their
two-match win streak come to an end.
Now 2-12 overall with an 0-3 mark in the RSC, Midway gets 10 days off before returning home to face in-state conference foe Campbellsville at 6 p.m. on March 6.
