Campbellsville ends Midway baseball's six-game win streak

MIDWAY, Ky. - An eight-run fourth inning by Campbellsville halted Midway's early momentum, as the Tigers pulled away for a 14-4, seven-inning win in a non-conference baseball game at Tracy Farmer - Don Ball Stadium Wednesday.

Despite getting just one hit the entire game, the Eagles still managed to jump ahead 3-1 after two innings.

Sodai Takanaga stole second after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first and eventually came home to score on a Pedro Morales groundout to tie the score 1-1. Then, in the second, Alex Scoular scored on a Tiger error before a Max Jewusiak sacrifice fly made it 3-1 Midway.

But the offense would struggle the rest of the way, with the following 12 batters being retired. And after an Antony Gilbert solo home run got the Tigers within 3-2, they exploded for eight runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Midway pitchers struggled to find the strike zone, walking five batters in the fourth, two of which came with the bases loaded. The surge ended when Jaxson Grubbs, the 10th of 11 batters to come to the plate, hit a three-run home run to left field.

Takanaga would add an RBI groundout in the seventh inning.

Ashton Blair was the top pitcher for Midway, allowing just one base runner in two innings of shutout work. Blair, a junior transfer, struck out the side in order in the fifth, giving him six-consecutive strikeouts to begin his time at Midway,

Now 8-4 overall, the Eagles entered the day on a six-game win streak, coming one victory shy of equaling the program record for consecutive wins.

Midway now turns its attention to River States Conference play, which begins with a three-game weekend home series against Brescia. Game one will be played at 2 p.m. Friday.
