CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio - Midway baseball continued the best start in program history, dominating from the start in a 10-0 win at Ohio Christian on Tuesday.
The game was a last-minute addition to the Eagle schedule after it was determined weather wouldn't allow a Wednesday home game against Lindsey Wilson to go as planned.
Taylor Voorhees got things started right away with a two-run, first-inning double. This began a dominant day at the plate for Voorhees, who had three hits and four RBIs.
The offense stalled for a bit, with a
Max Jewusiak RBI double in the fourth inning accounting for the only run over the next five innings. But Eagle pitching kept them in control, the efforts led by starter
Landon Heim.
In five-and-two-thirds innings, Heim struck out seven batters while surrendering just four hits and two walks, earning his first collegiate win.
Relievers
Ashton Blair,
Will Kearns and
Connor Schwalbach then sealed what became a shutout, combining to allow no hits and just one base runner over the final two-and-a-third innings.
From that point on, Midway was able to score four times in the seventh and three times in the eighth to seal the run-rule win.
A bases-loaded hit batter and wild pitch brought home the first two runs of the seventh before
Mahrlon Torress made it 7-0 with an RBI double.
Colt Whaley added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, then Voorhees ended the scoring with a two-run single.
Jewusiak,
Pedro Morales and
Bradey LaGreca all had two hits, while
Cole Ginter and Morales both scored three times for the 14-6 Eagles, who are well on pace towards eclipsing the single-season program records for wins. The previous season-high was a 28-win campaign in 2023.
Midway will return to River States Conference action with a three-game series at Indiana Columbus this weekend. The first game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Friday.
