OWENSBORO, Ky. - Midway continued its hot start to River States Conference play, easily handling Brescia 6-1 on the road in men's tennis Saturday.
The Eagles jumped ahead early, clinching the doubles point with wins at positions No. 1 and 3.
Ricardo Starosta and
Mudiwa Munyimani won 6-2 over Matthew Parsons and Arthur Happel, and
Shimpei Yazuka and
Aleksey Granitsa topped Crispin Ntoto and Maison Ficker 6-2.
Starosta, Granitsa and Yazuka also got singles wins, with Starosta (6-0, 6-4 over Parsons) and Yazuka (6-0, 6-1 over Ntoto) winning in straight sets at positions No. 1 and 6 respectively.
At No. 4, Granitsa lost the first set 6-4 to Dani Clavijo, before rallying to with the second set 7-5 and the third 10-6.
Elsewhere,
Ferran Clapes Ballart beat Happel 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and
Izan Casado topped Ficker 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5.
The Eagles are 2-1 overall and have won their first two RSC matches
by the combined scores of 13-1.
Midway's next three matches will be non-conference tilts on the road, starting with a scheduled 1 p.m. match at Campbellsville on Monday.
