OWENSBORO, Ky. - Midway women's tennis began River States Conference play with a second-consecutive nail-biting win, going on the road and edging Brescia 4-3 on Saturday.
The Eagles,
who defeated Indiana Southeast by the same score in Friday's league opener, secured the win at No. 1 singles, where
Alicia Sanglas Sanglas defeated Jada Flakes in the only three-set match of the day.
After losing 6-3 in the opener, Sanglas won the second set 6-4, then took a 7-5 thriller in the third to secure the win. She also helped the Eagles win the doubles point, as her and
Emma Pheiffer defeated Jada and Layla Flakes 7-5 at No. 1.
At No. 3 doubles, the team of
Caitlin Wright and
Haley Thompson beat Auna Mclure and Nevaeh Yates 7-5.
At No. 3 singles,
Tanit Cevada Cruz got her second-consecutive straight-set win, beating Aisha Merchant 6-4, 6-2.
Raigan Allbert easily got her first win of the season at No. 6, topping Yates 6-0, 6-1.
The Eagles have now won 15 consecutive matches against River States Conference opponents not named Oakland City, their streak dating back to April 15, 2022.
Now 2-1 overall, Midway has a pair of in-state, non-conference road matches scheduled for next week, the first a 1 p.m. matchup at Campbellsville on Monday.
