PIKEVILLE, Ky. - The Midway baseball team had one of its roughest outings of the 2026 season, falling behind early and eventually getting run-ruled 14-4 in seven innings at Pikeville on Tuesday.
The Bears jumped on the Eagles early, when the third batter of the game, Noah Brooks, hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run first inning.
Midway did respond initially, tying the score 3-3 thanks to an RBI single by
Sodai Takanaga and a two-run double by
Colt Whaley in the third.
The teams traded runs, with the Eagles again tying the score 4-4 on a
Pedro Morales fourth-inning single, but it was all Pikeville from there on out. After going ahead 7-4 after five, Pikeville ended the game early with a seven-run sixth inning in which it had six hits and sent 11 batters to the plate.
Takanaga had three hits and a run scored while
Noah Atherholt and Whaley both had two hits for Midway, which has dropped two in a row after winning its previous eight games.
Now 19-7, the Eagles, who are in second place with a 9-3 record in conference play, will travel to Indiana Kokomo this weekend for the River States Conference Series of the Week.
Game one of the three-game set is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday.
