RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Midway men's volleyball team returned to action Tuesday (March 24), traveling to the Buckeye State for a River States Conference matchup with Rio Grande (Ohio).
Trailing two sets to none, the Eagles responded by winning the third set, but the RedStorm secured the match with a fourth-set victory, 3-1 (25-12, 25-7, 24-26, 25-13).
Rio Grande (12-9, 4-6 RSC) controlled the opening two sets, posting hitting percentages of .321 and .440, respectively. Midway answered in the third set, recording a .308 hitting percentage to extend the match.
However, the RedStorm closed strong, delivering a match-best .577 hitting percentage in the fourth set to cruise to the 25-13 win and clinch the match.
Braden Cacek and
JT Kimball led the Eagles with five kills apiece. Kimball also made an impact defensively with a match-high six blocks.
Jordan Daily recorded 15 assists, while
Lincoln Anderson and
Gabriel Plata led the back row with 11 and seven digs, respectively.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 2-20 overall and 0-10 in RSC play. Midway returns to action April 1 when it hosts Cumberland (Tenn.) at Marshall Gymnasium.
