MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway jumped out to a 2-0 lead only for Asbury to win the next five points to top the Eagles 5-2 in the final men's tennis home match of the 2026 season.
Before the match began, the Eagles honored departing seniors
Ferran Clapes Ballart,
Izan Casado and
Daniel Pinzon.
Ballart and Casado then helped contribute to Midway capturing the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Franco Patino and Ignacio Ardiles.
The highlight of doubles came at No. 3, where
Manuel Mirabal and
Mudiwa Munyimani won 6-0 against Paolo Cargnelutti and Alejo Britos.
Ballart, who was just one day removed
from being named River States Conference Player of the Week, started off singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Patino.
But the visiting Eagles dominated the rest of the way, with four of their five singles wins coming in straight sets.
Midway, which fell to 6-4, closes the regular season at Oakland City Saturday at noon. Both teams are 4-0 in River States Conference play and the winner will be the No. 1 seed at the RSC Tournament on April 23-25.
