Scoular powers Eagles past Pikeville, snapping six-game skid

MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway baseball team stepped out of River States Conference play Tuesday, snapping a six-game skid with an 8-4 victory over Pikeville (Ky.) at Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium.

The Eagles struck first with a four-run second inning to take early control. Cole Ginter started the rally with a double before Colt Whaley followed with a single. Alex Scoular delivered the big hit of the frame with a two-RBI triple, and Mark Harmon Jr. and Logan Janiszewski each added RBI hits to make it 4-0.

Pikeville (25-17) answered with a run in the third and tied the game with a three-run fifth inning.

Midway responded in the bottom of the sixth. After an error and a walk put runners on, Scoular delivered again with a three-run home run—his sixth of the season—to put the Eagles back in front. Max Jewusiak followed with a solo shot, his fourth of the year, later in the inning to extend the lead to 8-4.

Scoular led the offense, finishing 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Whaley added two hits. Janiszewski, Harmon Jr., and Jewusiak each drove in a run.

On the mound, Jose Aviles allowed four runs (three earned) over five innings. Ashton Blair earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief, and Chance Todd closed it out with two shutout frames.

Midway totaled 10 hits and held Pikeville scoreless over the final four innings to secure the victory.

The Eagles improve to 25-19 overall and return to River States Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at WVU Tech.
