OWENSBORO, Ky. - Midway softball had a season-high 16 hits in game two of a doubleheader at Brescia on Wednesday, chasing the disappointment of a 6-5 loss in the opener with a 9-7 win in the finale.
With another dominant performance at the plate, Midway slugger
Randi Delong, who drove in six runs on five hits Wednesday, has a shot to close the regular season as the River States Conference leader in home runs, RBIs and batting average.
GAME ONE: BRESCIA 6, MIDWAY 5
Rhealee Ellis broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double to bring home
Ella Baum and
Rebecca Raiford.
After a one-out Bearcat single, the Eagles seemed to be in good position to escape the bottom half of the inning with a strikeout.
Unfortunatley, Brescia responded with three-consecutive hits to take the lead. Taylor Farrer singled home Averi Garrett, then scored on a triple by Mikah Goeppner.
Then, on a 3-2 pitch, Lilli Grant singled home Goeppner for what proved to be the winning run, as Midway went down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh.
Baum,
Madison Hill and
Alli Jones all had two hits with Delong driving in two runs on a second-inning double.
GAME TWO: MIDWAY 9, BRESCIA 7
Delong saved her best for game two, going 4-for-4 with four runs batted in. She started the scoring with a two-run double in the first then had two more RBIs on a fourth-inning single.
It was the fourth four-hit game of the season for Delong, who enters the final day of Midway's regular season leading the River States Conference in home runs (13) and batting average (.461) and is tied with Rio Grande's Nigella Reck for the league lead in RBIs with 55.Â
All told, five Eagles had multiple hits in game two. Hill had three, with Baum, Ellis and
Peyton Henderson all recording two. Baum drove in two runs while Hill and Briscoe both scored twice.
Midway improves to 11-34 overall with a 9-25 record in the RSC. It will conclude the 2026 season with another conference doubleheader at Indiana Southeast Thursday, game one beginning at 2 p.m.Â
