EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Midway made short work of Brescia in the River States Conference Men's Tennis Tournament semifinals Friday, returning to the championship match with a 4-0 win.
Tyler Fox and
Ferran Clapes Ballart got things started with a 6-2 victory against Crispin Ntoto and Maison Ficker at No. 3 doubles.
Ricardo Starosta and
Mudiwa Munyimani then locked up the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Matthew Parsons and Arthur Happel.
Starosta and Clapes Ballart were then dominant at the first and second singles positions. Starosta won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 against Diego Laguna while Clapes Ballart defeated Partson 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
Midway wouldn't have to wait long to earn the clinching point, as
Shimpei Yazuka also won in straight sets. Playing at No. 5, Yazuka earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Daniel Clavijo.
Just as the Eagle women's team
did a few hours prior, the men advanced to face Oakland City in the championship match for the fourth season in a row, where they too will look to win a first-ever conference title.
It won't be easy as Oakland City, the No. 19-ranked team in the NAIA, has lost just one set against RSC teams this season. The Mighty Oaks advanced with a 4-0 semifinal win over Indiana East Friday.
The 2026 men's final will be played Saturday at approximately 1 p.m. EST.
