Cameron makes individual cut; Eagles post best finish ever at NAIA National Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- While the Midway women's golf team narrowly missed the team cut at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, the Eagles still achieved several notable milestones following Thursday's second round at Eagle Crest Golf Club.

As a team, Midway recorded its best finish in program history at the NAIA National Championship, while sophomore Kasey Cameron made the individual cut for the second consecutive season.

The Eagles carded a 329 in Thursday's second round to finish with a 36-hole total of 650 (321-329), good for a tie for 18th place. The finish surpasses last season's 22nd-place showing as the best national championship finish in program history.

Cameron became the first golfer in program history to make the individual cut at the national championship multiple times after becoming just the second player in school history to accomplish the feat last season.

Coming off a 6-over 78 in the opening round, Cameron got off to a strong start Thursday with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole. The sophomore played her opening nine holes at 2-over par before finishing with a 5-over 77 in a round highlighted by 13 pars.

By making the cut, Cameron earned the opportunity to compete in Friday's third and final round. The Richmond, Kentucky, native is scheduled to tee off at 7:40 a.m. ET on hole No. 10.

Finishing just four shots behind Cameron and narrowly missing the individual cut was true freshman Anna Simpson. The Bardstown, Kentucky, native carded a 10-over 82 in round two to finish with a 36-hole total of 159 (77-82).

Kelsay Collins, a sophomore from Monticello, Kentucky, recorded eight pars Thursday on her way to a 13-over 85. She concluded the national championship with a 36-hole total of 166 (81-85).

Rounding out Midway's lineup were Anna New and Savannah Salchli. New, competing in the final round of her collegiate career, improved by four shots from round one to round two to finish with a 174 (89-85).

Salchli, who entered the national championship fresh off her first collegiate victory after earning medalist honors at the River States Conference Championship, wrapped up her junior season with a 36-hole total of 176 (85-91).
