MIDWAY, Ky. -- Coming off a hot start to the season, Midway hosts Bellarmine University in their home opener on Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at Midway Turf Field.

Midway (1-0) is coming into this game with a lot of momentum, they won last week in their season opener against Calumet College of St. Joseph 38-24 off a very strong defensive performance.

The Eagles defense was able to get to the Calumet College quarterbacks for a sack three times. They also picked them off twice. One of which included a 28-yard pick six by Mike Anderson.

Trenton Leach was a force to be reckoned with last week. Leach recorded seven total tackles, with three of them being solo. He got behind the line for two sacks, and 2.5 tackles for loss that totaled 15 yards.

Junior quarterback Christian Carter tossed three touchdown passes to three separate receivers, Chase Williams, Tanner Sullivan and Isaiah Mattingly. Mattingly's was a 60-yard play toward the end of the third quarter that put the Eagles up 35-17.

Carter threw for a game-high 173 yards in 11 completions (15.7 avg.).

Hayden Cocrkell was named the Midwest Sprint Football League Special Teams Player of the Week. Cockrell contributed to both punting and kicking for the Eagles. His seven punts totaled 241 yards (34.4 avg.). Four of them pinned the Crimson Wave inside their 20-yard line. He also went 3/3 on extra points and connected on a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to extend the Eagles lead 38-17.

Bellarmine (0-1) is coming off first week loss to Quincy University.

The Eagles are 1-4 lifetime against Bellarmine. Last season, they shut the Knights out 50-0.

Fans attending Saturday's contest are encouraged to plan ahead due to the Midway Fall Festival taking place in downtown Midway. Increased traffic, road closures and limited parking may impact travel to campus. Fans should plan to leave earlier than usual and allow additional time to arrive at the venue before the start of the game.
