MIDWAY, Ky. — Riding a three-game winning streak, Midway men's soccer returns to Midway Turf Field on Friday when it hosts Cincinnati-Clermont in its final tune-up before River States Conference play.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Eagles enter the matchup at 3-1-2, while the Cougars come to Midway at 0-5. Friday marks the final non-conference contest for Midway before opening RSC play at Kentucky Christian on Oct. 1.
Midway has found its stride over the last three contests. After beginning the season 0-1-2, the Eagles have rattled off consecutive victories over Transylvania, Bryan and Governors State, scoring seven goals during the winning streak.
The recent surge has been led by Saleh Ekuchi, who was named the River States Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a big week for the Eagles. The Louisville, Kentucky, native enters Friday leading Midway with three goals, three assists and nine points, while two of his three goals have been game-winners.
Ekuchi played a key role in each of Midway's last two victories. He scored twice in the 3-2 win over Bryan before contributing a goal and an assist against Governors State, including the game-winning goal late in the contest.
Landon Sorrell joined Ekuchi in receiving conference recognition, earning RSC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The senior goalkeeper has made four appearances this season and owns a 2-1-1 record with 16 saves.
Offensively, the Eagles have received contributions throughout the lineup. Miles Ezell and George Spencer have scored two goals apiece, while Martin Escobar and Brayden Leger have each found the back of the net once. Midway has scored nine goals this season, with seven coming in the second half.
Scouting Cincinnati-Clermont
Cincinnati-Clermont enters Friday searching for its first victory of the season at 0-5. The Cougars have scored three goals while allowing 24 through their first five contests.
Jake Menz, Bailey Sims-Sharpe and Trey Wynn have accounted for the Cougars' three goals. Menz leads Cincinnati-Clermont with three points after recording a goal and an assist, while Wynn has put three of his five shots on target.
Friday will mark the fourth meeting between the programs. Cincinnati-Clermont won the inaugural matchup in 2023, but Midway has responded by winning each of the last two meetings by a combined 11-4.
Following Friday's contest, Midway will turn its attention to conference play when the Eagles travel to Kentucky Christian on Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
